Ingredients

  • 3 large crisp apples such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 1 cup caramel sauce or caramel dip
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice optional
  • ¼ cup chopped pecans
  • ¼ cup mini chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup crushed pretzels
  • 2 tablespoons melted chocolate optional
  • 1 tablespoon toffee pieces optional

Method

  1. Wash the apples thoroughly and dry them completely with a clean towel.
  2. Remove the apple cores and cut the apples into thick wedges or round slices.
  3. If desired, lightly brush the cut apple surfaces with lemon juice to help slow browning. Pat away any excess moisture.
  4. Warm the caramel sauce according to its instructions until it becomes smooth and easy to drizzle or coat the apples.
  5. Dip each apple slice into the caramel or spoon the caramel over the slices.
  6. Place the caramel-coated apple slices on a parchment-lined plate or baking tray.
  7. Immediately sprinkle the apple slices with chopped pecans, chocolate chips, crushed pretzels, or your preferred toppings.
  8. Drizzle melted chocolate over the slices if desired.
  9. Refrigerate the caramel apple slices for about 15 minutes, or until the caramel has firmed up.
  10. Serve chilled or slightly cool and enjoy.

Notes

  • Use firm, crisp apples for the best texture.
  • Make sure the apples are completely dry before adding caramel so it sticks properly.
  • Granny Smith apples provide a delicious tart contrast to the sweet caramel.
  • Honeycrisp, Fuji, and Pink Lady apples also work well.
  • Add toppings while the caramel is still soft so they stick properly.
  • For a simple version, use only apples and caramel.
  • For parties, prepare several topping combinations to give guests different options.
  • Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator and enjoy within 1 day for the best texture.
