Ingredients

  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll sheets or crescent dough
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar optional for topping

Method

  1. Preheat the Oven
  2. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 12-cup muffin tin with cooking spray or butter.
  3. Make the Cinnamon Sugar
  4. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon. Mix until evenly combined. Stir the vanilla extract into the melted butter.
  5. Prepare the Dough
  6. Place the crescent roll dough on a lightly floured surface. If using perforated crescent dough, gently press the seams together.
  7. Roll Out the Dough
  8. Gently roll the dough into a larger rectangle. Avoid overworking the dough.
  9. Add Butter and Cinnamon Sugar
  10. Brush the surface generously with the melted butter. Sprinkle an even layer of cinnamon sugar over the entire surface.
  11. Roll Into a Log
  12. Starting from one long edge, tightly roll the dough into a log. Pinch the seam closed.
  13. Cut the Dough
  14. Using a sharp knife, cut the log lengthwise down the center. Cut the resulting pieces into portions that will fit into the muffin cups.
  15. Shape the Cruffins
  16. Gently twist each dough portion and place it into a greased muffin cup with the layered side facing upward.
  17. Bake
  18. Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the cruffins are puffed and golden brown.
  19. Finish
  20. Allow the cruffins to cool for several minutes. If desired, brush the tops with a little melted butter and sprinkle with additional cinnamon sugar or powdered sugar.

Notes

  • Crescent roll sheets make preparation easier, but regular crescent dough can also be used.
  • Press perforated seams together before rolling the dough.
  • Don't overwork the dough because gentle handling helps maintain the flaky layers.
  • Watch the cruffins closely toward the end of baking to prevent over-browning.
  • Let the cruffins cool for a few minutes before removing them from the muffin tin.
