Healthy Banana Bread Recipe

It is easy enough for a weekday breakfast but delicious enough to serve as an afternoon snack or simple homemade treat. You can also add chopped walnuts, pecans, or a few chocolate chips if you want to give the loaf extra flavor and texture.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 very ripe bananas mashed
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ¼ cup honey or pure maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans optional
  • ½ cup chocolate chips optional

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9x5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper.
  2. Mash the ripe bananas in a large bowl.
  3. Add the eggs, Greek yogurt, honey or maple syrup, oil, and vanilla. Whisk until combined.
  4. Add the whole wheat flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  5. Gently stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Fold in the walnuts, pecans, or chocolate chips if using.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 45–55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Cool in the pan for 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  10. Allow the bread to cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

For the best flavor, use bananas that are very ripe and naturally sweet. If your bananas are especially large, you may need slightly more or less flour depending on their moisture content.
You can also make this recipe your own by adding nuts, chocolate chips, cinnamon, or other favorite mix-ins.
